How to Care for Your Alpenshade Sunsuit
Your Alpenshade sunsuit was designed to keep little adventurers protected and comfortable through hikes, beach days, playground visits, and everything in between. With proper care, your sunsuit can maintain its UPF 50+ protection, softness, stretch, and vibrant colors for years to come.
Follow these simple tips to get the most life out of your Alpenshade gear.
Washing Instructions
To help preserve the fabric and extend the life of your garment:
- Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle
- Wash with similar colors
- Use a mild detergent
- Zip all zippers completely before washing
- Turn the garment inside out when possible
For extra protection, consider placing your sunsuit in a mesh laundry bag, especially if you're washing it with garments that have exposed zippers, Velcro, hooks, snaps, or other hardware that could snag delicate performance fabrics.
Avoid using:
- Bleach
- Fabric softeners
- Harsh stain removers
- Detergents containing optical brighteners
Fabric softeners and harsh chemicals can leave residues on technical fabrics and may reduce their breathability and moisture-wicking performance over time.
Drying Your Sunsuit
For the longest-lasting performance, we recommend hanging your sunsuit to dry.
While our fabrics can tolerate occasional low-heat tumble drying, repeated exposure to dryer heat can accelerate wear on elastic fibers, reduce fabric recovery, and shorten the lifespan of performance garments.
For best results:
- Hang dry whenever possible
- Lay flat to dry if needed
- Avoid prolonged exposure to high dryer temperatures
- Ensure garments are completely dry before storing
A little extra patience on laundry day can help keep your sunsuit fitting and performing like new for many seasons.
Avoid Snags and Abrasion
Our fabric is lightweight, breathable, and designed for active play. Like most high-performance knit fabrics, it can be vulnerable to snagging from rough or sharp surfaces.
Take extra care around:
- Velcro
- Exposed zippers
- Rough concrete
- Sharp rocks
- Splintered wood
- Unfinished playground equipment
Washing your sunsuit in a mesh laundry bag and storing it away from rough fasteners can help prevent unnecessary damage.
Stain Removal Tips
Kids have a talent for finding mud puddles, berries, popsicles, and everything else that leaves a mark.
For best results:
- Treat stains as soon as possible.
- Rinse with cold water.
- Apply a small amount of gentle detergent to the affected area.
- Wash according to the care instructions.
Avoid aggressive scrubbing, which can damage fabric fibers and affect the garment's appearance over time.
Hand-Me-Down Ready
One of our favorite things about Alpenshade gear is that it's built to last. With proper care, many families find their sunsuits stay in excellent condition through multiple children and seasons of adventure.
A few simple habits—gentle washing, protecting against snags, and hang drying—can go a long way toward preserving comfort, fit, and performance.
